QRusader, a new mobile game that transforms real-world QR codes into fully playable dungeons, is now available on the App Store and Google Play. Developed by indie studio Dinosaur Space Program and published by Uprising Labs, QRusader blends real-world exploration with fast-paced gameplay and blockchain-enabled features — while remaining fully accessible to everyday players with no crypto experience required.
A New Chapter from MrBeast’s Lead Writer
QRusader was created by Ben Timperio, the former lead writer for global YouTube phenomenon MrBeast. Known for pitching high-stakes viral concepts during his two-year tenure, Timperio brings that same creative energy to QRusader, an idea he first envisioned while walking outside the MrBeast production studio.
“I used to pitch QR code ideas at Beast all the time,” said Timperio. “One day it hit me: what if you could scan any QR code, from a receipt to a billboard, and it would become a playable game level? I couldn’t shake the idea. I knew I had to make it real.”
Driven by that vision, he self-funded the early development, built a team of passionate collaborators, and eventually partnered with Uprising Labs through the Dream Catalyst accelerator program on Somnia Blockchain.
How It Works: Scan, Play, Collect
In QRusader, every QR code in the world has the potential to become a unique dungeon. Scan one with your phone, and the game instantly generates a themed level complete with enemies, loot, and leaderboard challenges.
The game is blockchain-enabled, meaning players who choose to connect can own collectible versions of the dungeons they discover, access special rewards, and participate in upcoming events. But blockchain participation is optional, and traditional mobile players can jump in instantly without needing a wallet or token.
Built for Exploration, Designed for Everyone
“There’s something magical about turning everyday objects into adventure,” said Timperio. “Whether it’s a flyer, a food package, or a bathroom sticker. If it has a QR code, it can become a game.”
While early access features procedural dungeons and global leaderboards, the roadmap includes brand partnerships (like restaurant-specific levels), multiplayer exploration, and real-world scavenger hunts. Players might one day scan a menu at Chili’s and face burger enemies, or complete a Chick-fil-A dungeon for in-game rewards.
A New Kind of Blockchain Game
Unlike many blockchain games that feel “tech-first,” QRusader began with a strong creative idea and added blockchain as a layer of value, not a requirement. That approach appealed to Uprising Labs, a Web3 game publisher focused on backing playable, high-concept titles.
“We weren’t looking to make a ‘Web3 game,’” said Timperio. “We were building a fun mobile experience. Blockchain just gave us tools to make it deeper — with ownership, rewards, and a real sense of community.”
QRusader runs on Somnia, a new hyperspeed blockchain explicitly designed for real-time, mass-consumer applications, such as games and social applications. With over 1 million transactions per second, sub-second finality, and sub-cent fees, Somnia delivers the speed and scalability needed to make on-chain gaming seamless for players and developers.
