Alejandro Botto is a leader shaped by action. With a strong operational foundation and a passion for emerging technologies, he’s built a career translating innovation into business results. Today, as Head of Strategy and Operations at Turing, an enterprise AI company, Botto brings together expertise in AI, operations, and strategy. With experience in Silicon Valley and Latin America, Botto stands out as a leader uniquely positioned to connect innovation across both regions.
Execution in a Rapidly Shifting AI World
At Turing, Botto plays a critical role on the leadership team, driving its strategic and operational agenda. His mandate spans planning, translating objectives into actionable roadmaps, and aligning cross-functional teams to deliver with focus, quality, and speed.
“To succeed in this space, you need clarity and adaptability,” says Botto. “The AI ecosystem is changing quickly, and so must we.”
Botto works closely with R&D, Product, Delivery, and Sales to ensure scalability and efficiency. His blend of strategic insight and hands-on leadership helps Turing navigate innovation with structure and intent.
A Career Built on Scaling Transformation
Botto’s path to leadership in technology operations and AI has been defined by his ability to navigate complexity, lead with clarity, and scale impact across industries. His foundation was built at Universidad del Pacífico in Lima, Peru, where he studied accounting and business administration. This academic rigor laid the groundwork for a career spanning private equity, tech strategy, and operational leadership.
Early on, Botto joined Nexus Group, a Peruvian private equity firm, where he gained experience in valuation, investment strategy, and portfolio transformation. But it was through his time at McKinsey & Company, first in Latin America and later in Silicon Valley, that he honed his ability to drive strategic change across global organizations. At McKinsey, he advised Fortune 500 executives and startup founders on scaling digital capabilities and leading technology-driven transformation.
His move into operational leadership at Uber Peru brought these skills into focus. As a business lead, Botto oversaw a $200 million operation, launching and scaling services while leading initiatives that improved driver quality and retention. The experience solidified his ability to execute in high-growth environments.
At Waymo, where he collaborated with the head of strategy and business operations, and later at Kyte, he bridged his operations expertise with the complexities of emerging technologies. At Kyte, he served as Vice President of Operations (de facto COO) during a pivotal stage. Over three years, he led and scaled the Strategy, Central Operations, Support, Procurement, and Marketplace teams. Together, these experiences marked the entry points of Botto’s rise as a technology leader, establishing his credibility in building and scaling high-performance teams and shaping the operational backbone of companies at the forefront of innovation.
Bridging Two Worlds: AI and Latin America
Botto’s career gives him a rare perspective: a deep understanding of global technology markets combined with insight into Latin American business dynamics. Having worked across both Silicon Valley and Latin America, he recognizes the importance of tailoring innovation to the specific challenges of each market.
“We can’t simply copy what works in Silicon Valley,” says Botto. “Successfully adopting technologies like AI requires understanding of the different stages of technological readiness that companies face, which depends on how teams operate, how data systems are built, and how decision making is done in organizations.” Similar lessons apply to blockchain and digital finance tools, which often need localization before they can deliver value outside mature markets.
This perspective shapes his work with companies at various stages of digital maturity, from startups to enterprise transformations. Whether advising on go-to-market strategy, building operational infrastructure, or guiding technology adoption, Botto is known for his ability to bridge vision with execution.
In addition to his operational and advisory roles, Botto is active in contributing ideas and frameworks to broader audiences. He writes for Fast Company and is a member of its Executive Board, where he shares insights on innovation, strategy, and transformation. He has also collaborated with Harvard Business School on case studies that explore challenges that large companies face.
Looking Ahead
With a track record spanning strategy, operations, and technology innovation, Botto is clear-eyed about the road ahead. His aspiration is to eventually step into a Chief Operating Officer role, where he can shape operational strategy at scale, accelerate growth, and build resilient, high-performing organizations from the inside out.
At the same time, part of Botto’s broader vision is to drive meaningful impact in Latin America’s business and technology landscape. Whether through investment, advisory roles, board participation, or direct operational leadership, he is committed to supporting the next generation of companies across the region.
“I’m passionate about working with technology leaders to navigate growth, transformation, and the complexity of their markets,” he says. “There’s no better feeling than helping bold ideas become real, enduring outcomes.”
